ASKRIGG BANK IS FOR SALE

Kendal Model Railway club are delighted to offer for sale their award winning layout Askrigg Bank.

Since its first exhibition in 1994 the layout has been exhibited over much of Britain, and has also made 3 appearances in Europe. It has won 18 trophies at exhibitions during this period.

The sale will include the layout, complete with powerbox and 5 or 6 ECM Compspeed controllers.

Stock and Lighting units are not included in the sale.

The layout is 20ft by 10ft with all round scenery and represents a line through the northern Pennines, including a gradient up which trains are regularly piloted or banked.

The layout consists of a hidden multiroad storage yard, from which a double track mainline climbs at a gradient of 1 in 40 to a station situated over the hidden storage yard. The station has facilities for removing pilot and banking engines from trains that have ascended the bank. The station also has a loop for trains about to descend the bank, a small goods yard and a layby siding for trains that have climbed the bank.

From the station the main line descends at 1 in 100 in to a tunnel, passing through a small high level storage yard, then continues at 1 in 100 inside the layout to return trains to the main storage yard.

There are 59 points on the layout, all worked by Lemaco point motors. 12 operating signals are interlocked with the points in the station to provinde route confirmation via LEDs on the control panel. The layout comes complete with a comprehensive wiring diagram.

The layout was fully described in the March, April and October 1996 Railway Modeller and the articles won the Railway Modeller Cup in that year.

The layout has a confirmed exhibition booking for Warley show at the NEC on 21st and 22nd November 2009, and has had an enquiry for Alexandra Palace in March/April 2010. The actual sale and delivery of the layout would take place after the latest of these two exhibitions to be confirmed.

The layout can be viewed at Peterborough on 18th and 19th October 2008, Harrogate 31st January and 1st February, Kendal 7th and 8th March 2009. Alternatively arrangements can be made to view the layout at a mutually convenient time at our clubrooms.
